Quartz Movements
Quartz movement are simple battery operated mechanical timekeepers. Older models had actual metal gears and could even be adjusted on timekeeping speed. Today, they are simple units with plastic gears and almost perfect straight from the manufacturer. Quartz units now replace most AC plugin clocks and can run hands from 1" in length to 24" or more (high torque quartz movement).
There is almost no repairing quartz movements except come older units. But cost-wise simply replace them with another unit.! A movement in the 1970's may have taken a "D" or "C" size battery now can be replaced with a "AA" single battery unit. Simple movements can cost less than $5.00. Striking movements can cost $15 - $65 depending on manufacturer and quality of the unit. Some high dollar units sound very close to an actual mechanical clock.
The beauty in quartz units is that they can be exchanged with a different unit when needed. If you have a quartz clock and wanted it to strike on the hour, simply replace the unit. The only restriction may be very small clocks can hold a certain size quartz unit. That may restrict what can be put into the clock.
Clock Wise has quartz units available that strike the hour, ships bells, bim-bam or westminster chiming. Upgrade your present unit with something better! Bring in your clock and see what can be done for you...
